About the game
"Raposa do Sol" is Portuguese for "sun fox". Your ship flies around a single screen fenced by walls, and the job on each stage is to collect every satellite floating there. Turrets on the edges of the screen keep firing at you, and a short timer counts down on every stage, so you have to plan a fast route and keep moving.
The game offers two modes. Fixed World is a campaign of ten designed stages with an ending. Random World generates a new layout for each stage, for as long as you last. You start with three ships, and your best score is saved on the cartridge.
It was made for the SMS Power! coding competition in 2024, with code, graphics and music by its author.
Playing it here
This is a homebrew game made for the Master System: a new game by an independent developer, not a commercial release. It runs here in Gearsystem, a Master System emulator compiled to WebAssembly. Click Play now and press Z to get to the mode menu.
The high score is kept in this browser like a cartridge save. Do not press Enter on the title screen: on the Master System, the Pause button there erases the saved high score. F2 saves the full state of the emulator in this browser and F4 brings it back. A gamepad works too.
Controls
| Key | Master System button | Action |
|---|---|---|
| Arrow keys | D-pad | steer the ship; choose in the menu |
| Z | Button 1 | hold for a speed boost; start and confirm |
| Enter | Pause | pause during a game; erases the high score on the title screen |
| F2 / F4 | — | save / load the emulator state |
A few things worth knowing
Use the boost on the long stretches. It gets you across the screen fast, but makes the tight corners harder.
Watch the timer. When it runs out you lose a ship and the stage starts over, with every satellite back in place.
Learn the campaign. Fixed World always uses the same ten layouts, so it pays to remember where the satellites are.
