About the game
Ravine Despoiler is a small arcade game about emptying a ravine. A plane flies back and forth across the screen, high above a canyon packed with boulders, and every bomb you drop knocks out the boulders it hits.
The scoring keeps you honest: hitting several boulders with one bomb earns extra points, while a bomb that hits nothing costs you points. The game ends when the ravine is empty, and the question is how high a score you can reach on the way.
Playing it here
This is a homebrew game made for the Arduboy, the open, credit-card-sized handheld with a tiny black-and-white screen: a new game by an independent developer, not a commercial release. It runs here in Ardens, an Arduboy emulator compiled to WebAssembly. Click Play now, press Z on the title screen and wait for the short explanation to pass.
F2 saves the full state of the emulator and F4 brings it back. A gamepad works too. The game has almost no text.
Controls
| Key | Arduboy button | Action |
|---|---|---|
| Left / Right | D-pad | speed up or slow down the plane (depending on its direction) |
| Z | A | drop a bomb; start the game |
| F2 / F4 | — | save / load the emulator state |
A few things worth knowing
One bomb at a time. You can only drop the next bomb once the last one has landed, so each drop matters.
Slow down to aim. Holding the arrow against the plane's direction slows it right down, which makes it easier to drop a bomb exactly where you want it.
Misses hurt. A bomb that hits nothing takes points away. Waiting for a good spot beats dropping constantly.
