About the game

Rune Hunter is a game that fits in a coffee break. You are a treasure hunter in a dark dungeon, with a simple goal: bring three runes out alive, as fast as you can. A rune is paid for at an altar, and every altar asks for a different price in treasure: so many skulls, so many coins, maybe a gem. The side panel tells you what the current altar wants and how much of it you hold.

The catch is that treasure is heavy. The more you carry, the more turns each step costs you, and a ghost is looking for you. After a message that warns you that something bad is going to happen, the ghost appears from nowhere and comes after you. You can bribe it: drop some treasure and it vanishes, angrily if what you gave was a skull and with satisfaction if it was a gem, and a satisfied ghost needs more time to come back. The runes, in exchange, cannot be dropped.

So every few turns you decide between going for the next skull, putting down what you have to buy some time, and running straight for the altar. If the ghost catches you, the game ends; if you leave with three runes, the game tells you the turn in which you did it, and that number is your score.

Tips

Read the panel. The altar line tells which god it is and how many skulls, coins and gems you need; the numbers next to them show what you carry.

Do not carry more than you need. Every extra item slows you down.

Drop treasure to shake off the ghost. It is a cost, but it buys you the turns that you need to reach the altar.

Walk over the question marks. They are treasure that you have not identified yet; stepping on one tells you what it is.

FAQ

Is it hard? The game is short and the first runs end quickly. The rules are simple, but the margins are not.

Does it work on a phone? No: it needs a keyboard.
