About the game

Every year you walk down to the book fair in the old town centre, and every year you end up at Miky Bar. This time you have barely started on your beer when your friend Mario bursts in with terrible news: the Cheshire Cat is missing. It is the mascot of Ludo Ergo Sum, the gaming club Mario runs with Luigi, and without it the club cannot organise another event. Nobody likes the cat much. It meows all day and is not exactly house-trained. But it has to be found, and fast.

So you set off through the narrow streets around the fair, where every shop, stall and passer-by might know something, and most of them want something from you first. It is a light, friendly puzzle hunt about small favours and odd trades.

Marco Vallarino, an Italian journalist who has written text adventures since he was a teenager, first published the game in Italian as Salvate lo Stregatto and then translated it himself, with help from Emilio Audissino. It is short and can be finished in an afternoon.

A few things worth knowing

The opening text is the manual. Mario's reminder lists every verb the game needs. If a command fails, check whether it uses one of those.

Examine the furniture. The author's own tip: details mentioned in a description often hide objects or information.

Talk to everyone. Characters tell you what they need before they help, so ask them about the cat and about whatever they mention.

Keep a list of requests. Most people want a favour in return, and one errand usually leads to the next.
