About the game
A small blue walker strolls to the right on its own, and the ground in front of it only exists as far as you have built it. A cyan piece at the end of the path shows what you are about to lay. A tap cycles that piece between three shapes: rising, flat and falling, stepping through them one at a time and back again. Press and hold and pieces are laid down one after another, at a steady beat, each one going on from the last.
Red walls with a gap in them scroll in from the right, and the path has to run through the gap. Floating coins, shown as yellow dollar signs, are worth your multiplier each, and the multiplier goes up by one with every coin you take. A coin that scrolls off the left unclaimed costs you one level of the multiplier. Red crosses are spikes, and they, the walls, and the red bars along the top and bottom of the screen all end the game if the walker touches them. A walker with no ground to stand on falls, and the bottom bar is waiting.
Scaffold is one of the mini-games that Kenta Cho, who works as ABA Games, makes with his crisp-game-lib library. There are no image or sound files: the graphics are drawn by the code, and the sound effects and music are generated while you play.
Playing it here
Click Play, then click, tap or press Space inside the game to start. Nothing is installed or sent anywhere. The best score at the top right is only remembered while the page stays open. The first piece is laid when you have held the button down for a moment, so press and hold rather than tap to build.
Controls
| Input | Action |
|---|---|
| Tap (click, touch or Space) | change the slope of the next piece (rising, flat, falling) |
| Press and hold | lay pieces one after another |
A few things worth knowing
Look ahead to the gap. The path needs to arrive at the gap's height with a few pieces to spare, so start changing slope early.
Do not overbuild. The cyan piece is where the next one goes, and a long run of steep pieces will take you into the ceiling or the floor.
Coins are optional. A missed coin only costs one step of the multiplier, but a spike costs the game.
Credits and licence
Scaffold was made by Kenta Cho (ABA Games) and published under the MIT licence in the crisp-game-lib-games repository. The licence texts of the game, of crisp-game-lib and of the libraries that come with it are linked from this page. The game files are served as published, with only the starting page replaced so that nothing is loaded from other sites.
