About the game

SecBot is a security robot, part machine and part what is left of a person, sent by its employer to a space colony that has stopped answering calls. It lands, the colonists are scattered across the outpost, and the job is simple on paper: account for everybody and, if you can, bring them back to the ship alive. The colony is in worse shape than the radio let on, and between you and the survivors are broken-down rooms, explosive barrels, hostile machines and a few things that used to be neighbours.

It is a turn-based roguelike drawn with coloured text characters on a dark map. You move one square at a time (no diagonals), choose a target and fire. The side panel keeps score: how many colonists are on the level, how many you have found, how many died before you got there and how many you saved, plus a property damage counter, because the company is watching. Plenty of the humour is in the cheerful, corporate way everything is described, and the colonists you rescue have things to say.

Herbert Wolverson made it in seven days for the 7DRL 2021 challenge, in Rust, as a demonstration for his roguelike tutorials. It runs in the browser as WebAssembly.

A few things worth knowing

Look before you shoot. Explosive barrels are targets too, and a barrel near you (or near the colonists) is a bad idea.

The property damage counter matters. The ending notices what you broke on the way.

Colonists follow you. Rescued colonists walk with you to the ship, so keep an eye on the ones behind you.
