About the game
There is no jump button in Skyhop: the little round hopper bounces every time it lands on a platform, and your only job is to steer left and right. Fly off one side of the screen and you come back on the other.
The platforms come in kinds. Green ones are safe. Blue ones slide sideways. Brown ones crumble right after you bounce on them, so you have to keep moving. Yellow springs launch you extra high, and there are small enemies to avoid on the way up. If you fall off the bottom of the screen, the run is over, and the number at the top is your height.
The game has a set of medals to earn, drawn in simple shapes with synthesised sound. Your best height is saved in the browser.
Playing it here
Click Play and the game opens on its title screen. Press Play there to start. The sound can be turned off with the speaker icon in the corner, and the game also has a fullscreen button.
Controls
Left / Right or A / D to steer. You bounce by yourself. Touch: drag the on-screen stick.
A few things worth knowing
Never stop moving. Brown platforms vanish after one bounce.
Use the edges. Wrapping around the screen is the quickest way to reach a platform on the far side.
FAQ
How do I jump? You do not. The hopper bounces automatically, and you steer.
Credits and licence
Skyhop is one of the games in LittleJS Arcade by Frank Force, and it runs on his LittleJS engine. Both are released under the MIT licence; the licence text is linked from this page. The collection's repository includes notes for AI coding assistants, so the code was written at least in part with AI help. The graphics are drawn by the code and the sounds are synthesised, so the game loads no image or audio files. The source code is on GitHub.
