About the game
Space Delivery is a small, peaceful space game made by kirinokirino for the first WASM-4 game jam, in January 2022. There is no title screen and no countdown: the cartridge drops you straight into open space, among drifting stars and slowly shaded planets, and leaves you to fly.
Each planet has its own gravity. Get close and it starts to pull you in, more strongly the nearer you are and the bigger the planet, so flying here is less about steering and more about judging momentum. Your ship is just a few lines that stretch and turn with your speed, and the starfield moves at its own pace behind the planets, which gives the little screen a surprising sense of depth.
Somewhere nearby there is always one planet you are meant to reach. The game never shows you where it is. Instead, the line at the bottom of the screen measures how far away it is: it shrinks as you get closer and grows as you drift away. Land on the right planet and you are rewarded with a chime, a burst of sparks and a longer line just above, which counts your deliveries. Then a new destination is chosen, and the search starts again. The music is generated as you play, so it keeps changing for as long as you keep flying.
Playing it here
This is the cartridge built from the author's source code, running in the official WASM-4 web runtime. It is tiny, about 11 KB, and starts instantly. The game has no end and no save: it is meant to be played for a few minutes at a time.
Controls
| Input | Action |
|---|---|
| Arrow keys | push the ship in that direction |
| Z (button 2), held | stabilisers: try to hold the ship in place |
| X or Space (button 1) | booster: kick upwards, only when nearly stopped |
| Left mouse button | throw a particle towards the pointer |
| Enter | WASM-4 menu (pause, reset) |
On a phone or tablet, the WASM-4 runtime shows touch buttons on the screen.
Tips
Read the bottom line. It is your only compass. Fly in one direction for a moment and watch it: if it grows, turn around; if it shrinks, keep going.
Go easy on the thrust. The ship keeps its speed, and planets add their own pull on top of it. Short taps are easier to control than holding a key down.
Use the stabilisers to stop. Holding Z makes the ship fight to stay where it is, which is the quickest way to calm things down before a landing. They are not very strong, though, and close to a big planet its gravity wins.
Stuck on a planet? If gravity has pinned you to a surface, let the ship come almost to a stop and press X or Space. The booster only fires when you are nearly still, and it always pushes you upwards.
Lost the target? If you drift very far from it, the game quietly picks a new destination closer to you, so there is no way to get hopelessly lost.
