About the game
Spamality! is an arcade shooter set in a small steel arena with a red carpet. Two spawners in the top corners keep sending monsters at you, wave after wave, and you have a gun, a health bar and a mouse. The name is a twist on a word from a famous fighting game, and the author promises that it has nothing to do with it.
The trick is in the Spamality bar at the top of the screen. Every click fires a bullet and also adds to the bar, and so does every monster you defeat. When the bar fills you go up a level, and a higher level makes your bullets stronger, then more accurate and different in shape, and at the highest levels also slowly heals you. But the bar drains all the time, and the higher the level, the faster it drains, so you have to keep clicking, which is the whole game: you win by spamming, and you lose by stopping to think.
Between waves the monsters get tougher and more numerous, and the spawners speed up. The arena has a cross-shaped pillar in the middle to hide behind and to get trapped by. How many waves can you survive?
Spamality! was made for Open Jam 2018 by a single developer, liquidev (also known as iLiquid), and everything in it is his own work: the code, the sprites, the sounds and even the font.
Playing it here
The game was written for the LÖVE framework, and it runs in the browser compiled to WebAssembly. Click Play, then click once more in the game to begin. It needs a mouse: it is aimed and fired with it. After a game over, a click starts again from wave 1.
The picture is 128 by 128 pixels and scales up to fit the frame.

A few things worth knowing
Click, do not hold. A bullet leaves with every click and no more, so quick repeated clicks are what raise the bar and the damage.
Keep moving. The monsters walk straight at you, and a dash around the central pillar often buys you a second to fire.
Do not let the bar empty. A low level means weak shots, and the bar drains faster at higher levels, so keep it fed and do not stop in a quiet moment.
