About the game

Tux Planet 2 is a bullet-hell game wearing a platformer's clothes. You play Konqi, the green dragon, walking over a snowy world map from level to level. Each level is a snowy scene full of enemies, and every enemy fills the screen with patterns of fire that you have to weave through.

The rules are harsh on purpose. You have a single life and your hitbox is a single pixel, so a pattern can pass an inch from your sprite and miss. In return the game gives you the tools to learn it: hold Shift to slow time down for precise movement, press C to create a save state right before the dangerous part and X to load it again. Mastery here means figuring out each pattern, saving, failing and loading, and finally flying through it clean. There are three levels.

A few things worth knowing

Save before the hard part. There is only one life, so a save state is how you practise.

Slow down to dodge. Slow motion does not make you stronger, it makes the gaps easier to see.

Your hitbox is tiny. Only the pixel in the centre of the sprite can be hit, so trust the gaps.

Questions

Why does the game end so quickly when I fail? You have one life by design; load your save state and try again.

Is it affiliated with SuperTux or KDE? No. It is a fan game that uses free art and music, credited below.

Credits and licence

Tux Planet 2 was made by dtsudo, who published it under the GPL-3.0; it is a fan game of SuperTux and SuperTux Advance. The main character is Konqi, the KDE mascot, in a picture by Tyson Tan (CC BY-SA). The art, maps, sounds and music come from several free-culture authors: Benjamin K. Smith, Lanea Zimmerman, Daniel Eddeland, William.Thompsonj, Nushio, Adrix89, Crystalized Sun, FrostC, Jetrel, Kelvin Shadewing, Kenney, KnoblePersona, Nemisys, UbuntuJackson, Basto, Little Robot Sound Factory, Alex McCulloch, Cal McEachern, Juhani Junkala, migfus20, Spring Spring and wansti. The three levels are adapted from levels of SuperTux Advance (AGPL-3.0). Each file is under CC0, CC BY, CC BY-SA, GPL or AGPL; the credits and full texts are in the licence file linked from this page, and the exact source code (with our small changes) is hosted next to the game. It was written in TypeScript. We changed three things: a policy that stops the page from loading anything from other sites, the link to the author's GitHub page (it does nothing here), and the browser-save keys, which get a prefix so they do not clash with other games.
