About the game

Wash the Cat! turns a bath into a plumbing puzzle. A black cat with green patches walks by a cat wash, a steel frame with a shower on top. Water sits in a tank above it, and the only thing you control is the taps: a click opens a tap, another click closes it. A little red button on a tap means it is closed, and a green one means water is flowing.

The first level is a single tap, and the game explains what to click. But the water does not wait, and neither does the cat. The tank holds only so much and runs dry quickly, and the cat keeps walking, so the water has to be on the cat while it is under the shower. A bar on the result screen tells you how clean the cat got, and a try that falls short is just one click from a restart. There are nine levels, each with a new arrangement of tanks, pipes and taps, where the order and the timing of the taps are the whole puzzle.

Homer Dilpleu made Wash the Cat! for js13kGames 2025, a competition where the whole game has to fit in 13 KB and the theme was "Black cat". He built it on a small 2D engine of his own. The cat wash is drawn by code on a canvas, and the music is made for the game.

Playing it here

Click Play, then click the red button on the tap to start the water. Use the mouse, or tap with a finger; no keyboard is needed. The buttons in the corner restart the level, pause and mute the sound, and the game plays music, so check your volume. The number of the last level you cleared is kept in your browser, so you can pick up from there next time.

Controls

Input Action
click or tap a tap open or close it
click or tap the round arrow restart the level
click or tap the pause or sound button pause the game, mute or unmute

A few things worth knowing

Time it. A tank holds a limited amount of water, so opening a tap too early wastes it. Open it when the cat is about to be under the shower.

Try again. A failed level shows how much of the cat is clean. Use that number to tell if you are close.

Think about the order. In later levels water has to flow from one tank to another before it reaches the shower, so decide which taps go first.
