About the game
El Dueloroso is a western told in three kinds of showdown. In the duels you face an outlaw across the street, wait for the screen to say shoot and win three rounds before he does, and shoot early and you lose the round. In the shoot-outs a gang pops out of the windows of a saloon: aim a crosshair, shoot them before time or your health runs out, and reload when you are empty. In the wagon chases you run along beside a runaway cart, avoid barrels and line up a shot to stop it.
You can play Arcade mode through 15 levels (Easy to Extreme), Practice mode for a single kind of showdown or Survival mode. High scores are saved in the cartridge. The opponents have names, from Lenny Simpleton to Barry Jones, and the credits are worth a look.
Playing it here
This is a homebrew game made for the Game Boy: a new game by an independent developer, not a commercial release. It runs here in binjgb, a Game Boy emulator compiled to WebAssembly. Click Play now and press Enter on the title screen. Pressing Enter during play pauses. F2 saves the emulator state in this browser and F4 brings it back.

A few things worth knowing
Wait for the signal. In a duel, shooting early loses the round, so do not guess.
Shoot the explosives first. In the saloon, barrels and dynamite go off if you leave them, and shooting them is worth more than another bandit.
Watch your ammo. Reloading takes time, so do it when nobody is in the windows.
Credits and licence
El Dueloroso is by Adrian JG, made for the Game Boy Competition 2021 with GBDK-2020 and the hUGEDriver sound engine (public domain). The game is free software under the GNU General Public License version 3. The author does not publish a ready-made ROM in the repository, so the one served here was compiled from the project source code, leaving out the opening screen with the competition's logo and an unattributed picture in a hidden secret.
