About the game
Harmonist is a stealth roguelike made to be played in one sitting. You are a gawalt monkey whose friend Shaedra was taken by the Dayoriah Clan while she tried to get back a powerful stolen artifact. She is locked up on the eighth floor of the clan's underground hideout, and you are going down to get her out. You are small, you see well in the dark, and you would rather not be seen at all.
Almost everything in the game is about being noticed or not being noticed. Guards look in a cone in front of them, so where you stand relative to them matters more than how strong you are. Light shows you off and darkness hides you. Noise travels: some of your moves and actions make sound that monsters can hear, and you can hear them too. Foliage, water, windows and other kinds of terrain change what can see you and what you can see. You win fights by not having them, and when you do have to fight, by choosing the place and the moment.
There is no experience system and no complicated inventory. Your growth comes from the magaras you find (small magical devices that you can use a limited number of times), the other items lying around the floors, and what you learn about each kind of monster. Every run builds a new set of floors, so the plan always has to be improvised.
Playing it here
Click Play and the game loads in the page (about 5 MB, downloaded only when you press the button). In the first menu press P to play. The game keeps its saves in this browser: S saves and quits, and your game is picked up next time. Clearing the site data erases it. The page makes no requests outside this site. A keyboard is the best way to play; the mouse also works for moving and examining.
The "Statistics" button in the corner shows the summary of your run (the same thing the # key writes in the original game).

Tips
Look at where monsters face. Examine a guard to see its field of view and stay out of it; coming from behind is always safer.
Stay in the dark. Light makes you visible from far away; shadows near a lit room are a good place to wait.
Listen. The messages tell you what you hear, and a noise often means a monster is awake and moving.
Do not rush the stairs. Explore enough to find a magara or two, but leave when a floor gets too crowded: nothing forces you to clear it.
FAQ
Is it hard? Yes, and a run can end in a few turns. It is short, though, so trying again is cheap.
Can I save in the middle of a floor? Yes, with S, which saves and quits to the first menu. Press P the next time and the game picks up where you left.
Does it work on a phone? Not well: it is built for a keyboard.
Is the game finished? The version here is 0.5.0 (June 2023), a complete game with a beginning and an end.
