About the game
Hazard Level is a short horror roguelike set in a research site where something has gone wrong. Containment has failed, the staff that did not evacuate are sick, and the automatic self-destruct that should have fired never did. Your mission is to find a working computer, enter the code to trigger the self-destruct by hand, and then get out before it goes off. A countdown starts the moment the code is in, so the second half of the game is a run through the same place you just crept across.
It plays in turns, but time counts: the world only moves when you do, so every step, shot or wait gives the site a turn to answer. Four kinds of threat roam the map, and each one breaks a different habit. The infected shuffle after you, a long-lived thing patrols and leaves rust wherever it passes, a small creature creeps up and then lunges in bursts, and a statue sings and moves when you are not looking at it. Ammunition is scarce, so you also decide what is worth shooting. The text in the side panels is pieced together from redacted reports and intercom announcements, and a lot of it is blacked out.
It was made in seven days for the 7DRL 2021 challenge by Matthew Pfeiffer and Srinivas Kaza, in Rust, and the levels are stitched from seven hand-drawn map templates, so the site is different each time.
Playing it here
Click Play and click once on the game so it hears the keyboard. The bottom line shows what to press. The map scrolls as you walk, the blue bar at the right (RECALL) shows the report on the nearest threat, and the red one (INTERCOM) the announcements. The game is not saved; a failed run just starts again.
Controls
| Key | Action |

A few things worth knowing
Time only passes when you act. Use that: stop and think as long as you like, and waiting is also an action.
Count your ammo. Pick up what you find, and do not shoot what you can avoid.
Do not turn your back on the statue. If you cannot see it, it can move.
Know the way out before you enter the code. The countdown is short.
