About the game

Pew Pew Pew: Danger Zone! is a small vertical shoot-em-up made of triangles, squares and circles. You fly a blue ship up a dark-blue field, and red shapes come down from the top of the screen to shoot at you. The theme of the jam it was made for was "less is more", and the game takes it literally: your ship has only five points of health, and the less health you still have, the more bullets you fire and the faster you fire them. Being hit hurts, but it also makes you dangerous.

You start with three lives. Pickups on the field give you a shield, a drone that fights beside you, or a bomb, and the right side of the screen shows which ones you have. The enemies move in patterns, some in straight lines and some in circles, and so do their bullets, so the fun is in reading the pattern and finding the gap. There is a boss to beat, and the game keeps your high score.

The graphics are plain shapes in a small palette, and the sound effects have the chirpy sound of old arcade machines. Electronic tracks play over the action.

Tips

Stay in the middle. You have more time to see a pattern coming when you are not pressed against the edge.

Low health is not always bad. At one point of health you shoot much faster, so a careful, low-health run can clear a wave very quickly.

Keep a bomb for an emergency. The bomb is your panic button for when a pattern closes in around you, so do not spend it early.

FAQ

Does it work on a phone? The game needs a keyboard, so it is meant for a computer.

Is my high score saved? Yes, it is kept in your browser on this device.
