About the game
Broomball is a winter sport that is played on an ice rink, but with shoes instead of skates and a broom-like stick instead of a hockey stick, and Pocket Broomball turns it into a quick game for one finger. You see the rink from above, with the goal at each end, and you move your player around to hit a ball into the other team's goal before they hit it into yours.
There is a mode for every mood. Tournament puts you in a cup or a league: you pick a team, play your way through the group stage, the quarter-finals, the semi-finals and the final, and earn coins that unlock more teams. Arcade is an endless mode against a computer player that gets better after every goal you score; collect the coins and the freeze power-ups that appear on the ice and spend the coins on speed, power and freeze upgrades. 1 Player is a single match against the computer, from Easy to Legend. 2 Players is a match for two people on the same screen, and Bot vs Bot lets you watch. Between matches, the Shop sells balls, sticks and helmets, the Hall of Fame keeps your stats, and the Settings let you change the number of goals needed to win, the music and the language (English, German, Italian, French or Spanish).
The original game has real teams and their logos. This version does not: the leagues and the more than a hundred teams you can unlock are made up, with names such as the Amber Foxes or the Azure Pilots, and each has a crest drawn for this page. They keep the colours, the speed and the power of the original teams, so the game plays exactly as the original does.
Playing it here
Click Play and wait for the game to load (about 8 MB to download, only when you press the button). The game is made for a phone held upright, so it shows up as a tall window; on a computer, it works the same with the mouse. Your progress (coins, unlocked teams, items and stats) is saved in your browser.
Controls
| Input | Action |
|---|---|
| Press and move the mouse (or your finger) inside the field | your player runs towards the pointer, and hits the ball when it touches it |
| Pause button (top right of the rink) | pause the match |
| 2 Players mode | each player uses their own half of the screen |
Tips
Go behind the ball. The player moves towards the pointer, so place the pointer behind the ball in line with the goal, and then run through it.
Do not chase every ball. Let the ball come to you and keep your player near the goal when the other team is attacking.
Use the upgrades. In Tournament, you can raise a team's speed and power with the plus buttons. In Arcade, the freeze power-up stops the computer for a few seconds, which is the time to score.
Pick up the coins. They unlock new teams, balls, sticks and helmets. They come from the Tournament prizes, from league matches and from the coin power-ups on the ice in Arcade, where a good run pays well.
Raise the difficulty slowly. In 1 Player, Easy, Medium, Hard, Extreme and Legend set how fast and strong the computer is.
FAQ

Does it work on a phone? Yes. It was made for phones and uses touch.
Is my progress saved? Yes, in your browser. Clearing the site data erases it.
Is it free to share? Yes. The code is under the GNU AGPL v3 or later, and the source of this build is linked from this page.
