About the game
Super Tux Party is a board game with a minigame after every round. Up to four players, each one a penguin or a blue-haired mascot, walk around a 3D valley one dice roll at a time. The coloured spaces give you cookies, take them away or start small events, and there are items to find. A cake sits on the board and anyone with enough cookies can buy it. Whoever has the most cakes at the end of the last turn wins. When every player has moved, the round ends with a minigame, and the cookies from the minigame decide who gets ahead.
There are twelve minigames, and they are very different from each other: knock your friends off a sheet of ice, race over hurdles on a conveyor belt, escape from lava, find the matching pairs of cards, dodge falling boxes while you throw a bowling ball, harvest vegetables, sail a boat through a minefield or type the keys shown on a screen faster than the other team to compile a kernel. Some are one player against three, some are two against two, and some are everyone for themselves. Before each minigame the game shows its rules and the controls of every player, and you can try it first.
It was made by a group of volunteers, with free art, free music and free software, and it is very much a game for a sofa: the fun is in playing with other people.
Playing it here
Click Play and wait while the game loads (about 73 MB, downloaded only when you press the button; it takes a little longer than the other games). Click inside the game once so that it gets the keyboard. Choose New Game, then press a button of a free input set (for example U for the WASD set) to add a player, click the empty box at the left of each player to pick a character, and press Start. Every seat that nobody takes is played by a bot, so you can also play alone.
Two people can share one keyboard. For more human players you need gamepads, which the browser passes to the game, or you can remap the keys in Options. The language follows your browser, and the game has many translations. This web version has no online mode: everything runs on your own computer, and the settings and saved games stay in your browser.
Controls
| Input | Player 1 | Player 2 |
|---|---|---|
| Move | Arrow keys | W, A, S, D |
| Actions | V, B, N, M | U, I, O, P |
| Confirm | Space | Space |
The action keys do different things in each part of the game: every minigame lists its own controls before it starts. Esc pauses the game.
Tips
Try before you play. Each minigame has a Try button on its instruction screen. Use it once for the ones you do not know.
Save cookies for the cake. The cake costs cookies, and cakes decide the winner, so do not spend everything on items.
Use the items. The game has special dice and a trap that steals cookies, so try them out.
Shorten the game. In the lobby you can change the number of turns, the cake price and the time limit, so a game can be as short as a few minutes.
FAQ
Can I play alone? Yes. Add one player and the rest are bots.
Why are there only three characters? One of the characters of the original game is a registered mascot and was left out of this version, so there are three: Tux, a green penguin and Godette. Bots may share a character.
Does it need an account or a connection? No. After it loads, it runs entirely in your browser.
Is it free to share? Yes. The code is free software under the GNU GPL version 3 or later, and each picture, model, song and sound has its own free licence, listed below.

Changes made for this site: the character Beastie, the test board and the source files of the 3D models were left out; the textures and the music were made smaller (the music was re-encoded as Ogg Vorbis, so these files are changed copies under the same licences); the local game talks to itself in memory instead of using a network connection; the online mode and the links to other sites were removed; and the title screen was fixed. The full licence texts, the list of licences of every file, the patch and the source of this build are linked from this page.
