About the game
In Tower of Tension you are an adventurer climbing a tower for one thing, the Legendary Hammer of Sixela, waiting at the very top. The catch is that fighting here is about pushing, not stabbing. Your starting weapon is a baseball bat, and walking into a monster does not just hurt it: it sends it flying. A monster knocked into a wall takes damage, a monster knocked into another monster hurts both, and anything knocked over a ledge falls to the floor below. Smart players do not fight enemies one at a time, they line them up.
The tower is made of levels you reach by staircase, and each one is a small maze of rooms, doors and holes in the floor, with robots, spiky creatures, exploding "splodey bois" and drones that have their own ideas about pushing. You find weapons with special actions (a rocket launcher, a hook shooter), armour, and a jetpack that lets you go up without stairs, as long as the fuel lasts. Once you have the hammer the game is not over: you still have to get back to the ground and out of the tower alive.
Lauren Hetherington made it in seven days for the 7DRL 2020 challenge. It is a turn-based roguelike in plain text, written in JavaScript with no libraries, and it also works with swipes on a touch screen.
Playing it here
Click Play and click once on the game so it hears the keyboard. Walk with the arrow keys, and attack by walking into a monster. Stairs are used with the greater-than and less-than keys, and g picks up whatever you are standing on. Your weapon's special action (if it has one) shows under "Special actions" on the right, and f triggers it. Nothing is saved, so a run lasts as long as you do.

A few things worth knowing
Push on purpose. Count the squares behind an enemy before you hit it. A wall behind it is extra damage, a second monster is two hurt at once, and a drop turns a fight into a fall.
Read the sidebar. Your weapon, armour and their condition are listed on the right, with the special actions below.
Do not forget the way out. After the hammer, the staircase down is the quest, and the monsters are still there.
