About the game
Viva Hexagon is a puzzle game with a platformer in the middle of it. Hexagonal pieces grow at the top of a tall board and then fall, and you are a small character who runs around the bottom, jumps and picks the pieces up. You do not just drop them: you carry a piece, turn it, and place it where its colours will touch the right neighbours. When three hexagons of the same colour meet at one corner they match and vanish, and cells above them fall and may make a chain. Longer chains mean more points, and they also send trouble to your opponent.
That is the "versus" part. The game can be played alone, scoring as high as you can before the board fills up, or with a second player on a game controller, where each side has its own board and your chains hurt the other player. The game also has an interactive tutorial, which is very long on purpose: it is the complete documentation of the rules, from the first step to chains, grey cells and how you lose. There are several music tracks, a hand-drawn notebook style and a cast of small characters, with the title "Feat. Ipulo" after the little character you play.
It is a free game by zeddy1267, published for Windows, Linux, Android and the browser, with the source on GitLab. This page runs the browser version.

Tips
Do the tutorial. The rules are unusual and the tutorial teaches them in order; it is the quickest way to get to your first chain.
Read the preview. The ghost piece shows where your piece will land and what it will match, so use it before you place.
Mind the top. If cells stay in the incubator area at the top of the board for too long, you lose. Keep the board low and clean.
Dying is a tool. The tutorial points out that death resets your character quickly, which can get you out of a tight spot.
FAQ
Can I play with a friend? Yes, but the second player needs a game controller; the keyboard belongs to the first player.
Does it work on a phone? The game has touch buttons in its own phone version, but this page is made for a computer with a keyboard.
Is it free to share? Yes. The code is free software under the GNU GPL version 3 and the images and audio are under CC BY-SA 4.0, as listed below.
Credits and licence
Viva Hexagon! Feat. Ipulo was made by zeddy1267, with music and sound design by the people named in the credits screen of the game. The code is under the GNU General Public License, version 3; the source of this build is linked from this page. The images and the audio are under Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike 4.0. Most of the sound effects are edited from CC0 sounds of freesound.org and the others were synthesized by Dork Matter, as the author states. The fonts are Londrina and Press Start 2P, under the SIL Open Font License 1.1. The game runs on Godot Engine 3.5.3, under the MIT licence.
Changes made for this site: three sound effects that carry another author's name in their file tags and have no licence on record were removed (two of them, which the game plays, were replaced by simple synthetic sounds made for this site, released under CC0); and the buttons in the credits screen that opened websites do nothing. Nothing else in the game was changed. The licence texts and the source of this build are linked from this page.
